Pretzel Bites

Hi there! Welcome to Donuts and Dinner. Instead of writing the typical first post about what this blog’s about or an “about me” post (which will probably come at a later time), we’re heading straight for a recipe. Because that’s what food blogs are all about, yes?

My mom works at an accounting firm, and her boss’s 50th anniversary party was on Saturday. My sister and I made desserts. My mom and her co-worker are buying the cake. But that part is a surprise.

We decided to make these adorable pretzel bites as well as oreo truffles (recipe soon to come!) and M&M cookies for the party, since they’re easy finger foods and the guests are getting a catered meal anyway.

These Pretzel Bites are addictively sweet and salty. There’s the savory crunchy pretzel on the outside; then you have the sweet, smooth chocolate in the middle. People tell me you “can’t have just one.”

My dad said they look like TIE fighters…

Pretzel Hugs

(makes about 120)

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb. bag of mini Pretzels
  • 1 bag of M&M’s
  • 1 bag of Hershey kisses

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 175. Place pretzels onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Place one kiss on top of each pretzel. (you’ll probably have to do this in batches)
  2. Bake for 4 minutes. The kisses will be shiny but not melted.
  3. Press a M&M in each kiss and top with another pretzel. Let cool for 3-4 hours at room temperature or cool in fridge for 30 min.

*the original recipe does not top off the hugs with another pretzel; however, we found that without another pretzel it was too sweet for us. Besides, if you top with another pretzel, there’s a M&M surprise in the middle (:
